J.League 1 R3: Shonan – Nagoya Preview

Shonan Bellmare – Nagoya Grampus:

Shonan are off to a good start this year with a 2-1 win over Nagasaki in R1 before holding local rivals and champions to a 1-1 draw away last round. They also won 1-0 on the cup midweek so they are still unbeaten.

Nagoya have a perfect record so far in the league, and especially the 3-2 away win vs Gamba was impressive in R1. They followed that up with a 1-0 win at  home vs Iwata in R2. In the cup midweek they lost 1-4 at home vs Urawa, but fielded a b-squad.

Both teams played in J2 last season and it was no doubt Shonan were the most impressive team back then. Nagoya have made some changes since then that have strengthened them, but Shonan is a good team too.

Shonan have a very good H2H-record recently vs Nagoya, and they have won 5 out the last 6 matches against them.  I think Nagoya is being rated as a too big favorite here and therefore have good value on the home-team and it’s worth a bet.  The total also looks great, especially considering 6 out of the last 7 matches between them went over.  And anyone know saw Nagoya last year (or vs Gamba in R1) know their playing-style invites to lots of chances at both ends.
