J.League 1 Season Preview 2018 – Urawa Reds

Urawa Reds with a lackluster performance in the league last season, as they finished as low as 7th on the table. They scored tons of goals, but they had the 3rd worst defensive record in the league which was quite surprising considering what players they got in their defence.  They won the ACL though, so their season were still overall a success.

Since last year they have signed the one of the biggest DF-talents in the league in Iwanami from Kobe, but don’t think he will go straight into the lineup.  2 of their wingers have left in Sekine and Komai, but Martinus and Taketomi should be good replacements for those. Up front Rafael Silva have left for China, and that does weaken them a bit, but they still got plenty of goal-scorers in this team.

Without ACL to worry about this team should be one of the biggest favorites to win the title this year, but the defensive weaknesses they showed last season will not go away overnight, although it looks a bit better with their current manager than what it did with Petrovic.
