J.League 1 Season Preview 2018 – Shimizu S-Pulse

SHIMIZU S-PULSE

Shimizu was only 2 points away from being relegated last season, and needed a win on their final day to avoid the drop. They conceded a ton of goals, and they had some major wit how they organized their defence throughout the season. Since they they got a new manager in Jan Jönsson from Sweden, and they also made a couple of new signings. In defence, the only addition is Hwang Seok Ho, but not sure how much of an upgrade he will be.  They signed 2 new wingers in Ishige (returned from Fagiano) and Kusukami (from A-League), but none of them seems to be any better than the ones they already got so will probably not make too much of a difference.

Up front Crislan wil joing Chong Tese, and that could potentially be very good. Crislan scored 8 goals for Vegalta last season, but should at least hit double figures this year as Shimizu is a more attacking-minded team. They looked good in their season opener vs Kashima, and should be good enough to avoid relegation this year as well, given that they figure out their defensive issues.
