J.League 1 2017 Season Preview – Sagan Tosu

SAGAN TOSU

Sagan finished in a respectable 11th place last season, mainly due to the good form they showed in the 2nd stage.  Manager Ficcadenti seemed to get the team to play the way he wanted more and more as the season progressed, which should bide well for this season.

However, Sagan still look to have one of the weakest lineups in the league, atleast on paper.  They lost their best GK Hayashi, which means this season it will be last year’s  2nd choice Akahoshi who will be preferred. Only there they have lost an important player, and in addition their best arguably best MF Kim Min Woo have also left the club.

Among the players brought in, only Yuji Ono looks like someone who can lift the team, but although Ono obviously got lots of raw talent, he’s yet to deliver on a more regular basis. He should either way be a step up compared to Sagan’s other strikers though, except of course Toyoda. But overall, the team looks too weak and with too little depth, so it will most likely be another season where Sagan will have to fight against relegation.
