J.League 1 2017 Season Preview – Consadole Sapporo

Consadole had a fantastic last season, and ended up winning J2 despite not being seen as much of a contender.  Coach Yomoda have really done wonders with the players, and created a defensively strong team with a big work-rate.

They haven’t made too many changes since last year, and among the regular starters only MF Horigome and MF Uesato have left.  The players brought in all got a lot of J1-experience, but at first sight doesn’t seem like any major improvements over the players they already got.

They got a rather old squad, with an average age of 27,6, but there are still a lot of younger, up-and-coming players as well to keep a look out for.  Horigome, Arano, Fukai and the impressive Korean GK Gu particularly.  I think Consadole will do better than when they were up last time (2012), as they seem better prepared now, but it will still most likely be a fight to avoid relegation.
